Spare Cordless Rotary Drill Battery

Cordless Drill Battery Voltage

Voltage has become one of the key selling points when it comes to the Cordless Drill and other battery powered tools. Power equates to battery voltage and, in the case of the Cordless Drill, the higher the voltage the more speed and torque (spinning strength) which aids in drilling a hole more quickly and easily. A higher voltage drill such as a 24v Cordless Drill will also be able to accomodate bigger drill bits or blades.

Voltage has been steadily increasing over the years. These days the most common voltages you'll find on the market are 12v, 14.4v, 18v and 24v although Bosch and DeWalt now offer a 36v Cordless Drill. It's important to bear in mind however that whilst a higher voltage Cordless Drill will generally provide more speed and torque it will also require a larger battery which can increase the weight of a drill dramatically. Think carefully about your own requirements before jumping for the most powerful Cordless Drill. For instance, if you're assembling flat pack furniture you shouldn't require anything more than a 14.4v Cordless Drill which will be small and light enough to fit into tight spaces whilst not giving you arm ache. Conversely, if you intend on drilling into masonry all day long you should be looking at a high-end 18v, 24v or 36v Cordless Drill, or even a Cordless SDS Drill depending upon your requirements, learn more about the Cordless SDS Drill.
